Dr. David Brownstein- Medical Director

Dr. David Brownstein is one of the foremost practitioners of holistic medicine. He is a conventionally trained Board-Certified Family Physician. Dr. Brownstein is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He obtained an M.D. degree from Wayne State University in 1989 and completed a Family Practice residency at Providence Hospital in Southfield. In 1993, Dr Brownstein and his partners Dr. Richard Ng and Dr. Jeffrey Nusbaum formed the Center for Holistic Medicine in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Dr. Brownstein is the author of 15 best selling books including, The Miracle of Natural Hormones, Overcoming Arthritis, Overcoming Thyroid Disorders, and Iodine:Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It. He has lectured internationally to physicians and others about his success in using natural hormones and nutritional therapies in his practice. Dr. Brownstein is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the International College of Integrative Medicine where he is a board member.

Dr. Brownstein is proud to be a Michigan Wolverine and a lifelong U of M football enthusiast. He is the father of two beautiful physicians (!) Hailey and Jessica, and has been happily married to his wife, Allison, for over 30 years.

Dr. Richard Ng- Partner

Dr. Richard Ng (pronounced as ‘Ing’) is a first generation Chinese American, and a life long resident of the greater Detroit metropolitan area. Growing up in a hand laundry gave him first hand experience at problem solving and being self employed. He is a graduate of Cass Technical High, Wayne State University Under Grad & Medical School, followed by Residency training in Family Practice at Providence Hospital of Southfield, Michigan.

Post graduation, Dr. Ng worked for a decade in the Providence Hospital emergency room while starting up a medical practice, "Specialists in Family Practice" with two fellow graduates. During the first decade of practice he was a team physician for Novi High's football team. There he sought extra training in sports medicine. His love for sports and physical fitness is carried to this day.

Dr. Ng’s first exposure to medicine was the yin/yang balance by his mother, the self taught doctor of the family. He eventually came full circle to embrace her Oriental philosophy of holistic medicine. With experience in allopathic and holistic medicine, Dr. Ng takes a full spectrum approach to medical issues. He fells that it is necessary to restore a healthy foundation in the body via natural means, such as, nutrition, natural hormones, vitamins, minerals, acupuncture, homeopathy, structural alignment, energy medicine, and massage. There is a time and place for medications, but usually they are not the first and only choice.

Dr. Ng is a man in motion. He loves just about any activity, run, bike, swim, climb, ski, lifting. Tennis is a great outlet. He has been married to his wife, Rosa, for over 33 years. Together they have two adult children, Garek and Laura.

Dr. Jeffrey Nusbaum- Partner

Dr. Jeffrey Nusbaum received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan and completed his residency in Family Practice at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan.

Dr. Nusbaum has practiced holistic medicine for over 30 years, and he is a current member of the International College of Integrative Medicine, a not-for-profit medical organization, that seeks to teach the latest research in preventative, alternative, and innovative treatments.

Dr. Nusbaum specializes in Bioenergetic and Functional Medicine resulting in an emphasis on healing the whole person at the root level and taking into consideration, not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well. Dr. Nusbaum has completed special training in Orthomolecular Medicine, Bio-identical Natural Hormonal Balancing, Bach Flower Therapies, Applied Kinesiology, and Korean Hand Acupuncture. With an added interest in Homeopathy, he has also undergone studies through the Desert Institute of Classical Homeopathy in Phoenix, Arizona. Additionally, Dr. Nusbaum has extensively studied the discipline known as Homotoxicology, and he has received special training, as recognized by the society of Homotoxicology of North America.

In his multifaceted medical practice, Dr. Nusbaum specializes in the use of whole food supplements, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, systemic enzymes, herbs, homeopathic remedies, Bach Flower Essences, bio- identical hormones, and nutritional IV therapies.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Nusbaum is an ardent student of Kabbalah and dedicates time to the study of these ancient spiritual principles. Another passion of Dr. Nusbaum is his lifelong hobby of magic, and although it be many years ago, Dr. Nusbaum performed magic professionally mostly for charities.

Dr. Cynthia Lepak

Dr. Cynthia Lepak has practiced medicine for over 25 years. She graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1995, and completed her residency at DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital in 1998.  Dr. Lepak was the attending Emergency Room Physician at DMC through 2020.

Dr. Lepak’s passion for Holistic Medicine developed when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014 and needed major surgery.  She felt that she needed to dramatically change her life in order to stay heathy. This led Dr. Lepak to research and further study in alternative treatments for all diseases. Dr. Lepak spent over 3 years taking courses at The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and has shadowed multiple holistic & alternative medicine Physicians.

This journey led her to the Center for Holistic Medicine where she shadowed extensively with Drs Brownstein, Ng, & Nusbaum. Dr. Lepak joined the Center for Holistic Medicine in September of 2021.

Dr. Hailey Brownstein

Dr. Hailey Brownstein completed her Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience at the University of Michigan. She completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. In June 2023, Dr. Brownstein completed residency training as the Chief Resident at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, and is ecstatic to be at the Center for Holistic Medicine.

Dr. Hailey Brownstein is fortunate enough to be the daughter of Dr. David Brownstein, who was her inspiration to pursue medicine. In addition, she has been learning from Drs. Richard Ng and Jeffrey Nusbaum her whole life. Growing up immersed in the world of holistic medicine, she has seen firsthand the success of practicing medicine with a whole-body approach. Dr. Hailey Brownstein is also trained in osteopathic manipulation, which is a form of manual medicine to treat various physical conditions. Her interests in family medicine are all-encompassing, and she is trained to treat all ages, including infants and toddlers.

In her free time, Dr. Hailey Brownstein enjoys traveling, playing tennis, practicing yoga, and spending time with her husband and 3-year-old dog Willow.

Jessica Gross, PA-C

Jessica Gross, PA-C is a Board-Certified Physician Assistant. She completed her Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jessica was a Medical Assistant at the Center for Holistic Medicine where she worked closely with Drs. Brownstein, Ng, and Nusbaum. It is during this time when her appreciation of holistic medicine was fostered.

Jessica attended the Physician Assistant program at the University of Detroit Mercy and graduated with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Upon completion of the PA program, she did clinical work in Chicago, Illinois. Jessica joined the Center for Holistic Medicine in January 2022.

Jessica’s practice emphasizes the importance of treating the whole person while pursuing the underlying causes of disease. Her practice includes the evaluation and treatment of hormonal imbalances, thyroid disease, as well as, acute & chronic illnesses. Jessica is also an advisor for CHM’s Multifunction Cardiogram Testing Program (MCG).

Dr. Jessica Brownstein

Dr. Jessica Brownstein was born and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan.  She attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate studies where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomolecular Sciences. She completed medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed the Family Medicine Program, serving as the Chief Resident at Ascension Providence in Southfield, Michigan.

Dr. Jessica Brownstein is the daughter of Dr. David Brownstein & the sister of Dr. Hailey Brownstein, who both work at the Center for Holistic Medicine.  She is a conventionally trained family practice physician who will utilize the best of holistic and conventional medicine to treat her patients.  She has been learning holistic medicine from her mentors, Dr. David Brownstein, Dr. Jeffrey Nusbaum and Dr. Richard Ng for her entire life.  She is interested in treating patients as a whole and using nutrition, supplements, hormones, vitamins, and minerals to help her patients.  Dr. Jessica has also been trained in Osteopathic Manipulation Medicine, which will be an important modality in her practice. In addition, she is trained to treat all ages, including infants and toddlers.

Dr. Jessica Brownstein has personal experience with holistic medicine.  She was diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid disease at age 10.  She has used supplements, vitamins, and dietary changes to keep her autoimmune condition undetectable for 10+ years.

Dr. Jessica Brownstein is an avid University of Michigan football fan (along with her father, Dr. David Brownstein).  She enjoys spending football Saturdays at the Big House in Ann Arbor, traveling, enjoying Michigan summers on the lake, working out, and spending time with her husband, Brett.
